JellyPlayer

Support

Questions, bugs, or ideas — we're happy to help.

Write to support@priet.us. We answer as soon as we can. It helps to include your Apple TV model, the tvOS version, and — for playback issues — the file's container and codecs.

Requirements

JellyPlayer needs a media source you control: a Jellyfin server, or an SMB share on your local network. It doesn't include or stream any content of its own. Requires tvOS 18 or later; an Apple TV 4K is recommended for 4K HDR playback.

Frequently asked questions

What do I need to get started?

Either a Jellyfin server — enter its address and sign in — or an SMB share. For SMB, open the Network tab: servers on your network are discovered automatically, or you can add one by IP or hostname.

Does JellyPlayer re-encode my videos?

No. JellyPlayer uses direct play: your server sends the original file and the app decodes it on the device. Nothing is transcoded, so you get the exact quality of your source.

Which formats and codecs are supported?

It's built on the mpv engine with hardware-accelerated decoding, so it handles most containers and codecs: high-bitrate 4K, HEVC / H.264 / AV1 / VC-1, 10-bit HDR, lossless and multichannel audio, and PGS (image) subtitles.

What about HDR and Dolby Vision?

HDR10 and HLG play with passthrough when your Apple TV is set to HDR output. Dolby Vision sources are rendered as HDR10. If your TV is SDR, turn off HDR passthrough in Settings so the video is tone-mapped.

Can I switch audio and subtitle tracks?

Yes. Open the on-screen controls during playback and pick any audio or subtitle track, including forced and image-based (PGS) subtitles.

Can I play from a NAS without Jellyfin?

Yes. The Network tab browses SMB shares directly — no Jellyfin server required. Folders and playable files are listed so you can start playback with a click.

A file won't play or the colors look off.

Check that your Apple TV's HDR output setting matches the content, and that the file's codec is among those listed above. If a specific file still fails, email support@priet.us with its container and codec details and we'll take a look.

Is my library or my data sent anywhere?

No. JellyPlayer has no analytics, no ads, and no telemetry. It talks only to the Jellyfin server and SMB shares you configure. See the Privacy Policy for details.
